LAW 710: Transactional Drafting - fall
Prerequisite: LAW 510, 511, 540, 541
An introduction to the principles of contemporary transactional drafting. Traditional law school legal writing courses focus almost solely on litigation writing. This course teaches students how to draft provisions for use in contracts, releases, settlements, and other transactional and litigation contexts. We will learn about the building blocks of a contract; draft, edit, and revise common contract provisions; study ethical considerations in contract drafting; and explore translating business concepts into contract provisions and "adding value" to business deals. This fully online course requires weekly readings, homework assignments, discussion board participation, and the submission of three major drafting assignments. There is no final exam.Students may not earn more than 10 credits in distance education courses during their first 30 credits of J.D. study. Students may earn no more than 30 credits in distance education courses during their entire J.D. program.
