How to Contribute
Upward Bound is a grant-funded educational opportunity program that helps low-income high school students from the Greater New Bedford area (which includes Wareham and Westport) achieve their dreams of going to college. Any donations to the program would be put to direct use to improve the services that we offer to our students. The University of Massachusetts is a non-profit educational institution that qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization, so all donations are tax-deductable.
There are many ways that donations can be used by Upward Bound to improve the quality of its services. For example, funds could be used to buy additional equipment or classroom supplies, to increase the number of cultural activities that we can offer, to help pay for off-campus trips to visit college campuses, etc. Alternatively, you could choose to donate specifically to benefit our "Bridge Scholarship." Each summer, 12-15 Upward Bound students who have just graduated from high school and plan to enroll at college in the fall participate in our Bridge Program. During this six-week program, Bridge students take a college course, live in a residence hall at UMass Dartmouth, attend a variety of workshops, participate in internships and mentor our undergraduate student groups. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide these students with some money for books and supplies for their first semester at college. Since our grant funds cannot be used for this purpose, this scholarship is primarily funded through private donations.
