Accepted International Students for Spring
Fall enrollment for international students
Accepted for fall semester? See your next steps.
Congratulations and welcome to the UMassD community! We’re excited to be part of your educational journey.
Step 1: Accept your offer
When you complete the intent to enroll form, you can pay your enrollment deposit. The $200 enrollment deposit amount is deducted from your university bill. Available seats in the popular majors are filled based on date of deposit. Your deposit is required to receive an I-20 and is refundable before January 2.
Step 2: Reserve your spot in housing
Living on campus will provide you with extraordinary experiences and opportunities to meet new friends and create a lifetime of memories. Reserve your place today! Include an additional $200 deposit with your enrollment deposit—for a total of $400. Once you deposit and apply for housing, you'll have access and be able to view housing options and select a roommate. Deposits are non-refundable after January 2 and are deducted from tuition and fees on your university bill. You will receive a separate bill for your housing charges.
Step 3: Submit your documents to request your I-20
Accepted international students need an I-20 document to apply for their F-1 visa to enter the U.S. The I-20 is a multi-purpose document issued by UMass Dartmouth certifying that a student has been admitted to a full-time study program and that the student has demonstrated sufficient financial resources to stay in the U.S. An admitted student needs to take the I-20 to the American embassy or consulate when applying for a student visa.
I-20 document checklist (all six items are required)
- intent to enroll form
- enrollment deposit
- financial documents (bank statements, loans, financial guarantee letter from government) valid within 9 months of the first day of class with a minimum balance equal to the difference between your scholarship amount and $50,000 USD.*
- Affidavit of Support (the amount should be equal to or greater than the balance on the above financial documents)
- Declaration and Certification of Finances
- photocopy of valid passport biographic page
*For example, if you receive $10,000 in scholarship, the minimum balance needed would be $50,000 - $10,000, or $40,000. Bank statements can be requested from a local bank and need to be in English.
Once we receive all these documents, the International Student & Scholar Center (ISSC) will process your Form I-20 and send instructions on how to retrieve it to both your personal and your UMassD email addresses.
Transferring your I-20: If you are currently studying in the U.S. as a high school or college student, you must contact the DSOs in the International Student Office at your current school to request transfer out of your SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019, and have the DSOs complete the Transfer Verification Form.
Once we have received the completed Transfer Verification Form, the financial documents for Form I-20 or DS-2019 as outlined above, and the transfer of your immigration record from the school you are attending, we will process your Form I-20 and send you instructions on how to retrieve it to both your personal and UMassD email addresses.
If you previously attended a high school or college in the U.S. and your I-20 has expired, please reach out to international@admissions.umassd.edu.
Step 4: Activate your UMassD account
After you’ve deposited, activate your account to access to your email, retrieve your I-20, my.umassd.edu portal, and more. You’ll need your ID—that can be found in your accept letter—and to set up multifactor authentication with the Duo mobile app to activate your account.
You will need to activate your UMassD account in order to retrieve your I-20.
