Office of Institutional Ethics & Compliance

The Office of Institutional Ethics & Compliance assists researchers, students, faculty, & staff navigate the increasingly complex web of regulations, laws, and policies by providing researchers with advice, guidance, training, and education. It serves as the administrative office for the faculty research committees: the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC); and the Institutional Review Board (IRB). In addition, it provides training, guidance, and education on export controls, research integrity, conflicts of interest, and responsible conduct of research. The mission is to ensure that all research conducted on campus complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and University policies.

Committees

Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC)

The IACUC oversees the proper use of animals in research

Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

Committee that oversees activities involving potentially hazardous biological agents

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The IRB oversees research involving human subjects here at UMassD

Policies, procedures, and regulations on export controls

Dive Control Board (DCB)

The DCB oversees all scientific diving is conducted at all UMass campuses.

Policies, procedures, and regulations on responsible conduct in research
