Alberto Pena Rodríguez is associate professor of Media Studies at the University of Vigo (Spain), where he has also served as Dean. He was the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American-Development Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2013), the Michael Teague FLAD/ Brown Visiting Professor in the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University (2017), and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and University of California Berkeley.
He is the author of Salazar y el fascismo español. Propaganda franquista y salazarista en la colonia española en Portugal (1933-1939) (2017); Salazar y Franco. El fascismo ibérico contra la República española: diplomacia, prensa y propaganda (2017) among other books, and Comunicar en la diáspora.Prensa, periodismo, radio, exilio y propaganda entre los inmigrantes portugueses en Estados Unidos (1877-1950) (forthcoming). He has also published more than 100 hundred articles and book chapters in academic books and international journals, such as Media History, Journal of Iberian & Latin American Research, Communication & Society or Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies.
Currently, he is the director of the History Section in the Spanish Association of Communication Research (AE-IC).
