Please join us on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m., in the Grand Reading Room of the Claire T. Carney Library, UMass Dartmouth, for a stimulating discussion on the 19th century Brazilian novel, Ursula by Maria Firmina dos Reis.
This novel, published decades before other Brazilian abolitionist novels (1859), offers a sensitive and nuanced portrayal of enslaved African and Afro-Brazilian characters.
This is the first English translation of this seminal work in Brazilian literature.
