Policy on Distribution of Research Support Funds
I. Policy
Distribution of Research Support Funds based on facilities and administrative cost recovery from externally funded grants is made to support scholarly research activities and to provide seed money for new externally funded projects as detailed in ACA-027. For grants on which the principal investigator is a tenure/tenure track faculty member or a research professor (assistant, associate or full research professor), the policy with respect to the distribution of Research Support Funds generated through recovery of facilities and administrative costs on sponsored grants and contracts is:
- Principal Investigator 15 percent
- Department of P.I. 10 percent
- College Dean 15 percent
- Provost 55 percent
- CITS 2.5 percent
- Dean of Library 2.5 percent
Alternative distributions may be implemented for grants involving centers, multiple PIs, PIs with interdepartmental appointments, grants that do not generate full applicable facilities and administrative cost returns or in other exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Provost.
If the principal investigator is not one of the faculty types identified above, research support funds may or may not be distributed. Whether distribution occurs and the percentages for distribution if it occurs, will be determined by the Provost or his/her designee prior to proposal submission. Non-faculty, research associates and emeritus faculty will not receive Research Support Funds except in unusual circumstances as approved by the Provost.
