Admission process
Undergraduate degree & certificate applicants
- Complete and submit your online undergraduate application.
- Submit $30 non-refundable application fee; we accept MasterCard or Visa.
- Submit official transcripts from all accredited colleges or universities for which you enrolled in courses.
Students with fewer than 13 college credits will be required to:
- Have your high school transcript sent to UMass Dartmouth.
- Have your official SAT or ACT scores sent to UMass Dartmouth.
- Send a personal statement of up to 500 words that demonstrates qualities of leadership, community service, work experiences and/or other significant interests.
Students who complete high school through the GED program must submit a copy of the GED certificate from the state, along with a copy of your GED test record. An official high school transcript is still required.
RN-BS degree applicants need to submit copy of active Nursing license or date of Nursing exam.
Second Degree Accelerated BS in Nursing applicants
- Complete and submit your online undergraduate application.
- For entry term, select Fall. Cohort officially begins every Fall.
- Submit $30 non-refundable application fee; we accept MasterCard or Visa.
This program is not eligible for tuition waivers or credits.
- Order official electronic transcripts from all accredited colleges or universities for which you enrolled in courses.
- Upload an essay that does not exceed 600 words that answers the three following questions:
- Why do you want to pursue a career in nursing?
- What challenges do you anticipate and ways you will address/overcome them?
- Upload your professional resume.
- Have your official TEAS test scores electronically sent to UMass Dartmouth
- Provide name and contact information of three professional recommenders (if possible, it is recommended that one be an academic reference).
- Must have a GPA of 3.00 or better in original degree.
- An overall GPA of 3.20 and no grade below a C+, completed at the college level (remedial courses not accepted) is required for the following prerequisite courses:
- Anatomy & Physiology I with lab – 4 credits (online version of this course and lab accepted)
- Anatomy & Physiology II with lab – 4 credits (online version of this course and lab accepted)
- Chemistry – 3 credits
- Microbiology with lab – 4 credits (online version of this course and lab accepted)
- Introduction/Basic Statistics – 3 credits
- A TOEFL or IELTS score is required if you do not hold an undergraduate degree from an U.S. higher education institution.

Medical Laboratory Science MLT-MLS BS (Online) applicants
- Complete and submit your online undergraduate application.
- Submit $30 non-refundable application fee; we accept MasterCard or Visa.
- Submit official transcripts from all accredited colleges or universities for which you enrolled in courses.
- Provide the Statement of Support and the Clinical Facility Fact Sheet completed by a current employer or practicum site that indicates agreement to support your clinical experience.

- Resume must show a minimum of one year and a half (18 months) of full-time work experience (or part-time equivalent) after graduating from an MLT program, currently working as a MLT in a clinical lab setting.
- Hold an associate degree from a NAACLS accredited CLT/MLT program or equivalent coursework. You can verify your program is NAACLS accredited by visiting their website.
- Submit proof of current ASCP CLT/MLT certification by mail, or email a copy to online@umassd.edu.
- Must have a GPA of 2.00 or better in original MLT degree program.
- A TOEFL or IELTS score is required if you do not hold an undergraduate degree from a U.S. higher education institution.

Graduate degree applicants

- Statement of purpose (minimum 300 words): indicate your graduate study objectives, research/creative interests and experience, undergraduate and graduate experience, and business or industry experience, as applicable. Be sure that your name and the name of your desired program appear on the first page. We will use this essay to assess how well your academic interests and long-range goals match the academic program to which you are applying.

Official GMAT score (or equivalent) test score. Waived if certain criteria met. - MPP:
Official GRE score. Waived if applicant has already earned a Master’s degree or higher; has successfully completed a UMass Dartmouth Education, Public Management, or Environmental Post-Baccalaureate Certificate; or is submitting LSAT scores as a joint JD/MPP program applicant.

In addition to the application for admission, the following are required:
- Official SAT or ACT score results, unless 24 transferable credit hours have been completed at a two-year (e.g. community college) or four-year accredited institution.
- English language proficiency must be demonstrated. One of the following test scores are required, unless the student has attended, for at least one year as a full-time student, a school in a country* where English is the sole primary language:
- TOEFL (79+)
- IELTS (6.0+)
- Cambridge English B2 First**
- C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency (176+)**
- Duolingo (105+)
- TOEFL Essential (9.0+)
- Official test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency. If you’re planning to take the test, you can request that your scores be sent to UMass Dartmouth during the registration process. Alternatively, if you’ve already taken the test, you can directly request your official scores from the following organizations: College Board, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo.
- Since the application process for international students requires more time for a thorough review of all required credentials, applications should be filed a month prior to the beginning of the desired start term.
- Students whose transcripts are from a college or university in another country should have their transcript and courses evaluated by an approved U.S. evaluating agency, such as Center for Educational Documents or World Education Services.
- International students are not eligible for financial aid.
*Qualifying countries are Australia, Belize, Botswana, Canada (except Quebec), Caribbean English-speaking countries, Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, Hong Kong, Ireland, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Applicants may waive the language score requirement if they are enrolled in an IB curriculum, attend American college/university full-time for one academic year, or enrolled in a curriculum that leads to Cambridge International Examinations: IGCSE/O-level and GCE/A level exam.
Graduate international applicants
- Permanent home address in country of citizenship.
- Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate that they are proficient in English. Most do this by taking the TOEFL/ IELTS/Duolingo. Contact us for more information.
Transfer credits
Student Support Advisors are available to assess how credit for courses taken at other institutions will transfer to UMass Dartmouth prior to your admission. The college Deans (or designees) make the final determination of how credits will transfer.
- A grade of C- is the minimum acceptable grade for receiving transfer credit.
- Transfer credits are recorded on the student's permanent UMass Dartmouth record.
- We may accept up to 90 transfer credits to apply to your UMassD degree requirements. Your advisor will provide more detail about your transfer credits.
- A minimum of 30-31 credits must be completed at UMass Dartmouth to meet the "academic residency requirements."

Online application requirements
Use "mixed case" when entering proper name information; for example, use Jane Doe not JANE DOE or jane doe.
Once your application has been submitted, you cannot make corrections or upload documents to it online. If you must make a correction later or need to submit further documents, please email online@umassd.edu or contact 508.999.9202.

Scholarships & Financial Aid
UMass Dartmouth offers financial aid in the form of scholarships, loan programs, and payment plans to help students and their families with educational expenses as well as some specific scholarship opportunities for online and continuing education students.
