Accounting and Finance Department Research Seminar

The Department of Accounting & Finance announces the following research seminar. Speaker: Professor. Reilly White (University of New Mexico) Title: Compensation Structure and Real CSR Reporting Activity: CEO Dollars and Sustainable Sense Date: Friday, September 27, 2024 Time: 1pm-2:15 PM Location: via Zoom Meeting Meeting ID: 438 755 1509 Abstract: We investigate the impact of executive compensation on CSR activities in the U.S. from 2006 to 2020, particularly CEO pension compensation. Our study shows that higher pension compensation leads to lower initial CSR reporting but more consistent and sustained disclosures over time. This pattern highlights the long-term value preservation that pension compensation incentivizes. Additionally, we find that sustained CSR reporting is more common when pension compensation is substantial compared to other compensation forms like cash and equity. This suggests that aligning CEO compensation with firm capital structures can minimize agency risks and foster more sustainable corporate practices.
