With conversational and generative AI systems like ChatGPT on the rise, Professor Sylvia gave a talk on the ramifications of using artificial intelligence in the professional sphere. Her webinar is one of a series hosted by UMass Dartmouth’s Office of Alumni Relations which seeks to spotlight graduates of the University. Sylvia is an alumna of both the undergraduate university and the school of law in Dartmouth.

In her presentation, entitled: “Your Digital Colleague: Legal Frameworks and Ethical Dilemmas Surrounding A.I. in the Workplace,” Sylvia identified several data privacy risks and discussed implicated areas of law, including intellectual property rights and copyright protections. Sylvia, an advocate for using technology in an educated and safe way, also made recommendations that users could bear in mind when using generative A.I. in a safe and effective way.
