The March 26 event, co-hosted by MASSPIRG, will donate all proceeds to Ukrainian refugees
The Leduc Center for Civic Engagement and MASSPIRG Students are hosting a walk-a-thon to raise funds for Ukraine relief. The event, which now takes place on Saturday, March 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. on the UMass Dartmouth campus track, will donate all proceeds to Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
Walkers are encouraged to create their profiles and join the UMassD team to reach the goal of $1,500, collaborating with the United Way of Greater Fall River.
Some 2 million people have fled Ukraine, and experts predict 4 to 7 million will be forced to leave before the conflict is over. United Way is stepping up to support those displaced by the violence, providing life-saving relief. The donation to the United for Ukraine fund will be designated for immediate humanitarian support and directed to on-the-ground efforts by United Ways in Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
The immediate support will cover:
- Transportation
- Shelter
- Food and medicines
- Critical childcare supplies, including infant formula and diapers
- Hygiene kits and more
By donating to United Way, individuals support vetted, nonpartisan organizations on the ground and provide vital help to those who need it most. This situation is fluid, and there is no doubt the needs will be significant and will continue for some time.
