Sophomore marketing major Cameron Rodgers and freshman crime and justice studies major David Bennett of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's track & field team are on their way to the NCAA Division III Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Both finished the year in the top 20 of their respective events to advance.
From Fall River, Mass., Rodgers will make his second-straight appearance at nationals in the 400-meter hurdles tonight, May 26, at 6:25 p.m. He has the 13th best time in the nation (52.95), which he achieved on May 13 at the NEICAAA Championships at Bryant University. Last season Rodgers finished third in the event with a time of 53.01.
A native of Newton, Mass., Bennett made the most of his first season with the Corsairs, qualifying for NCAA's in the 400-meter dash with the 13th best mark in the country (47.57) at the NEICAAA Championships. Bennett has gotten better in the event as the season has gone on, breaking his own program record five times.
The competition runs Thursday, May 26 through Saturday, May 28.
