University identified as “Better for Veterans” due to support services and campus culture
UMass Dartmouth was chosen as a 2019-2020 Military Friendly School. The Military Friendly Schools list has come to set the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. This prestigious list provides a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families.
The university is committed to veterans and active military duty students. Veterans and active duty military members receive their own orientation, where they meet their fellow new student veterans and veteran members of the faculty and staff. Support is available through the Student Affairs Veteran Resources & Support Center in the campus center where information on counseling, financial aid, and other issues relating to their lives are available. Veterans and active military duty students also have their own dedicated study room in the library and can join the Student Veterans Association organization on campus.
Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default Rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
This year 766 schools earned this prestigious designation. The full list can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
