Dr. Kevin Stokesbury receives service award from International Council for the Exploration of the Sea

Dr. Kevin Stokesbury, Professor of fisheries oceanography at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science & Technology (SMAST), has been awarded the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) Service Award in recognition of his contributions to the organization.
The ICES, located in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a global organization that develops science and advice to support the sustainable use of oceans. The organization coordinates and promotes marine research on oceanography, the marine environment, the marine ecosystem, and on living marine resources in the North Atlantic.
From 2013-2018, Stokesbury has served as chair of the organization’s Scallop Assessment Working Group. “Kevin Stokesbury and his group have made an important contribution to marine science and developing effective collaborations within the ICES network,” said Anne Christine Brusendorff, General Secretary of ICES. “On behalf of the ICES Council, Science Committee, Advisory Committee, and Secretariat, I would like to take this opportunity to your institute for enabling Kevin Stokesbury to take a leading role in the ICES community.”
Additionally, Stokesbury was also recently named 2018 "SouthCoast Man of the Year" by The Standard-Times/SouthCoastToday.com for his continued research contributions to the fishing industry on the SouthCoast of Massachusetts.
