The women’s rugby team earned their spot in the “final four” of the NSCRO Women's National Championships after winning the Northeast regional title. The team defeated Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, November 14with a 42-5 victory, and went on to defeat the University of New Haven on Sunday, November 15 in overtime, with a final score of 22-10.
The team has dedicated long hours of practice and great effort to achieve success this season. The women’s team has experienced the best season in the rugby club’s history. “15 as 1” has been the team’s unofficial slogan from the start of the season in early September.
The Corsairs remain undefeated in the regular and post season. Founded in 2005, the UMass Dartmouth Rugby Club has both a men’s and women’s team with each side improving by leaps and bounds from its humble beginnings. While the club spent its first eight years being self-run, this year marks the second year that each side has had their own head coach and a designated rugby pitch.
