UMass Dartmouth's College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) is ranked #1 in Massachusetts, second in New England, and 40th in the United States for Public Animation Schools and Colleges animation program offerings by Animation Career Review. The online career resource cited the CVPA's offerings, which include a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Visual Design with an Option in Digital Media. Among others, the BFA and MFA programs prepare students for creative positions such as Animator (2D and 3D), Special Effects Designer, Cartoonist, Art Director, and Entrepreneur.

Nick Bruno '98 graduated from UMass Dartmouth's Department of Design with a BFA in Digital Media. Nick has served as the animation character lead of "The Whos" for the 2008 film Horton Hears a Who!, supervising animator of 2012 animation film Ice Age: Continental Drift, and animator on the 2013 animated film Epic.
Richard Fournier '01 earned his BFA in Visual Design. Richard has served as animator on such films as Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), Rio (2011) and Rio 2 (2014), and the upcoming The Peanuts Movie (2015).
