Today students will be encouraged to use new "one-stop-shop" online tool for registering to vote
UMass Dartmouth students will celebrate National Voter Registration Day, today, Tuesday, September 23, 2014, by holding a voter registration drive, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the University's MacLean Campus Center. Students will be encouraged to register to vote through the help of the Democracy Works tool, TurboVote, an innovative "one-stop-shop" voter engagement platform that helps students to register to vote, request an absentee ballot and receive election reminders with important election information, dates, and deadlines.
A row of laptops, tablet computers, and other smart devices will be available for students to easily register to vote by visiting www.UMassD.TurboVote.org. After signing up with TurboVote, the system keeps track of all their elections---local, state, and national. If students wish to register, update their addresses or request absentee ballots, TurboVote sends them all the necessary forms and information with pre-addressed, pre-stamped envelopes.
UMass Dartmouth announced the launch of UMassD.TurboVote.org in late August. More than 100 students have already signed up using the new technology.
TurboVote is a project of Democracy Works, a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Brooklyn, New York, that is passionate about building the democracy of the future.
