UMass Dartmouth Nursing alumni are invited to celebrate 45 years of nursing at UMass Dartmouth.
UMass Dartmouth will hold a Nursing Alumni Reunion to celebrate 45 years at UMass Dartmouth on October 18, 2014, at 5pm, at the Claire T. Carney Library. Alumni from the University's College of Nursing are invited to celebrate more than four decades of leadership and innovation in health care and have the opportunity to meet new Dean of Nursing Dr. Kimberly Christopher. Dr. Christopher brings more than three decades of academic and clinical experience to UMass Dartmouth, most recently as Chair and Chief Nurse Executive of the Department of Nursing, College of Health Professions at Towson University in Maryland. UMass Dartmouth's College of Nursing enrolls more than 650 students in its DNP program, BS, RN-to-BS Online, RN Refresher, MS, and PhD programs of study.
The College of Nursing was ranked 79th nationwide by U.S. News & World Report in its 2015 edition of the "Best Graduate Schools" issue. The University's College of Nursing was among nearly 1,000 programs surveyed by U.S. News.
UMass Dartmouth and the University of the Azores recently announced a new academic and cultural Nursing exchange program. The program will provide eight University of the Azores students, eight UMass Dartmouth students, and one faculty member from each university the opportunity to collaborate in classroom instruction, student exchange, language instruction, and community assessment. The first student exchange is scheduled for Spring 2015.
UMass Dartmouth recently announced a $1.25 million gift from Rear Admiral Julia Plotnick (Ret.) to establish the Julia and Harold Plotnick Endowed Professorship, which will support the creation of a tenured position with a specialty in Global Health within the College of Nursing.
