University to Announce Celebratory Events and Activities for 50th Anniversary

This Saturday marks an important milestone for UMass Dartmouth. The University's proud history dates back to 1895, however, 50 years ago, on June 14, 1964, civic and education leaders broke ground in Dartmouth to create Paul Rudolph's 710-acre architectural vision of an academic utopia.

Now, in 2014, as the Town of Dartmouth is celebrating its 350th anniversary, UMass Dartmouth will celebrate its 50th. To commemorate this moment, UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Divina Grossman will be joined by students, faculty, and staff, alongside civic, business and community leaders for a photo this Friday, June 13, at 9:30 a.m. at the Claire T. Carney Library patio. Following the photo, birthday cake will be enjoyed to celebrate the anniversary.

Three displays containing historical documents and items commemorating the 1964 groundbreaking will also be available for viewing in the Library lobby. Additionally, Chancellor Grossman will announce several celebratory events and activities that will be taking place in the coming months.
