The UMass Dartmouth community will host a series of events for the International Day of Peace on Sunday, September 21, 2014. The International Day of Peace is observed annually as a dedication to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence.
International Peace Day itinerary:
12:55 p.m. --African Drum & Dance Ensemble perform
1:00 p.m. -- Rededication of Peace Pole (located just outside of Marketplace on the UMass Dartmouth campus)
1:05 p.m. -- Student Jessica Miller sings "Up the Mountain"
1:10 p.m. -- Student, Endeavor Scholar Alyssa Nastri explains significance of Peace Pole
1:15 p.m. -- Catholic Campus Ministry reflects on world peace
1:25 p.m. -- student Joshua Hubbard reflects on peace symbolism
1:35 p.m. -- Jessica Miller sings "Let Peace Begin with Me" during Peace Pole blessing
1:40 p.m. -- ALL "Let Peace Prevail on Earth" in different languages
1:45 p.m. -- Thank you/goodbye; African Drum & Dance Ensemble perform
2:00 p.m. -- "One Day One Goal" Campus-wide Soccer Tournament
UMass Dartmouth's Leduc Center for Civic Engagement, UMass Dartmouth's Endeavor Scholars, and the Athletic and Intramural Departments have organized these International Day of Peace events. Focused on expanding educational opportunities for women and underrepresented minorities, the Endeavor Scholarship rewards academic merit and leadership capability and provides recipients with a full-cost scholarship for eight semesters.
