Local High School Interns will Present Recently Released Report November 1
The UMass Dartmouth Urban Initiative's (UI) 2013 high school interns will present their just-released report on college access in the SouthCoast, Friday, November 1, 2013, at 4pm at the Claire T. Carney Library Grand Reading Room. The team of interns will discuss their findings and next steps in the process of boosting educational attainment in the region.
The UI ( http://umassd.edu/urbaninitiative/) conducts applied research, evaluates programs and policies, facilitates collaborations, and provides technical assistance to cities and organizations, serving as a knowledge base for urban policy issues in the region.
Perhaps most importantly, the UI works to engage the UMass Dartmouth community and its surrounding cities and towns. The organization involves UMass Dartmouth undergraduate, graduate--and in this case, area high school--students, in every aspect of its work: students participate in meetings with partners, write project and grant proposals, gather and analyze data, write reports, and conduct presentations in the community. Through these activities, our students benefit not only from the ability to apply classroom lessons in the field; they also become more competitive in the job market by building skills and making connections in the community.
