Jazz invitational concert and music clinic hosed by UMass Dartmouth Department of Music
The UMass Dartmouth Department of Music is pleased to present a Jazz Invitational Clinic and Concert which will feature jazz faculty and students collaborating in a joint concert on Tuesday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium located on campus at 285 Old Westport Road, North Dartmouth. The concert is free and open to the public, and attendees should park in Lots 4 and 5.
Featured on the concert will be faculty members Jim Robitaille, guitar, Christopher Poudrier, drum set, Wes Brown, bass, royal hartigan, drum set, and Marcia Bornhurst Parkes, who serves as the Assistant Chair of the Department and leads the UMD Jazz Ensemble. Music Majors and Minors, non-majors, and community members who study with select ensemble and applied faculty will be performing and improvising together with faculty on various jazz standards.
During the afternoon of March 12th, UMass Dartmouth music faculty will give a free one-hour workshop for the Fairhaven (MA) High School Jazz Ensemble led by Bryan Young. Following the jazz ensemble's performance, music faculty will offer critiques and suggestions regarding growth and improvement. Fairhaven student musicians will have a guided tour of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and view the Javanese Gamelan instrument collection housed in the Department.
