Employee Tuition Benefits
Waivers (also known as “tuition credits” in some cases) of mandatory tuition and fees are approved by the Legislature, Board of Higher Education, or the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees. Other waivers may be approved by the University of Massachusetts President’s Office. Waivers of Continuing Education program fees may be set by the campus. Details of specific waivers approved by these bodies may be found on the specific agency’s web site.
The application of waivers is restricted to one per student per semester. Any student who may be eligible for multiple waivers will be granted the one with the most beneficial impact to the student.
Waiver forms for UMass employees will be processed provided they are received within the same calendar year as the classes taken. Adjustments for prior calendar years are not accepted.
Waiver forms for state employees are not accepted retroactively. The form must be submitted before the end of the semester in which the student is enrolled.
It is the employee’s responsibility to submit forms allowing sufficient time for processing.
*Effective Spring 2022, employee waiver forms must be received in Human Resources by the final course add/drop date. Employees who submit their form late will be responsible for any late fees assessed by the Bursar.
UMass Dartmouth employees, spouses and dependents
The tuition benefits apply only to full and part-time benefited employees. Where the term 'benefited employee' appears below it refers to an employee who is eligible for insurance benefits through the MA Group Insurance Commission ("GIC").
Eligibility for tuition benefits for benefited employees does vary by length of benefited service. The amount of the tuition credits also depends on the program of study (undergraduate, graduate or continuing education) and the benefited status (full-time or part-time).
