Summer Financial Aid

Eligibility requirements

  • Completed FAFSA with all requested documentation submitted.
  • Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program and enrolled in classes at UMass Dartmouth.
  • No financial aid will be available for coursework taken outside of UMass Dartmouth unless enrolled in an approved study abroad program.
  • Student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by the Financial Aid Office at the end of the spring semester.
  • For Direct Loan consideration: undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 4.5 credits.
  • For Pell Grant consideration: undergraduate students may be enrolled in 3 credits or greater.

Award determination

  • Summer aid eligibility for students who are registered in summer courses will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Office beginning in May. Students will be notified through their UMass Dartmouth email account. 

Types of Financial Aid available

  • Federal Pell Grant:  Pell Grant eligibility is determined by the Federal Government and based on demonstrated financial need. 
  • Summer Pell:  Summer Pell is awarded to undergraduate students who are Pell eligible  and registered for six or more credits for summer.  The award will be half the amount awarded for the academic year.
  • Residual Summer Pell:  Residual Pell is awarded to students who have not exhausted their Pell awards during the fall or spring semester and are less than six credits for summer.  If you receive Pell Grant funding for 12 or more credits of enrollment in both the fall and spring semesters and are below six credits for summer, it is likely you have exhausted your annual eligibility and you will not be eligible for a summer Pell Grant.
  • Federal Direct LoanYou may be eligible to borrow Federal Direct Loan during the summer if you have not already received the annual limits listed below during the fall and spring semesters:

Federal Direct PLUS Loan or Private Loans: You may apply for the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan (undergraduate students), Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan (graduate students) or other private education loans.  Information is available at Financial Aid
