Masters Degree Non Law Scholarships

Do not lose your Federal Work Study!

Students awarded Federal Work-Study (FWS) that do not secure a job by the October 11 fall hiring deadline may keep half of their award for the spring semester.

To defer your FWS until the spring semester, complete the Federal Work Study Deferment Form by the date indicated on the form and upload it to the Student Service Center (SSC). Failure to submit the form by the deadline will result in the cancellation of the entire FWS award.

For matriculated students. Read descriptions for eligibility requirements and application process. If a separate application is required, it will be listed with the scholarship.

 

For those scholarships that require a General Merit-based Scholarship Application , only one completed application is necessary to be considered for multiple scholarships.

For a full-time (9+ credits/semester) graduate student who demonstrates high academic achievement in his/her field of study.

Shaukat Ali Memorial  Humanitarian Scholarship

To support a student with financial need who shows academic promise and who lives by humanitarian ideals. Preference will be given to students who are maintaining a GPA between 3.0-3.75. Community service and volunteerism will also be considered.

Alice S. Ayling Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen who are Massachusetts residents with demonstrated financial need will be considered. This scholarship is open to any undergraduate major.

This scholarship may be renewable if student continues to demonstrate financial need and keeps with the mission of the fund.

The Executive Director of the Ayling Scholarship Foundation will be on campus one day during the fall semester to meet with each of the recipients to discuss their academic activities and to gain a sense of the consequences this scholarship may have had. Attendance is encouraged for this meeting.

Application for admission and subsequent acceptance to UMD will automatically allow students to be considered.

For new freshmen undergraduate students. Must be a resident of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Freetown, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester, or Westport.

Theodore S. Bochenek Memorial Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

Borden & Remington Scholarship Fund

For the offspring of Borden & Remington employees who attend UMass Dartmouth. Said employee must be on the payroll of Borden & Remington Corp at the time of the application and must have been successfully employed with the company for at least two years.

Professor Joseph A. Bronstad Scholarship (Study Abroad)

For students participating in any of the Hessen programs. This scholarshup was established to recognize and reward the achievement of a student entering the sophomore or junior year or a first semester senior who will study for an academic year, semester, January intersession, or summer program in the State of Hessen, Germany. Preference will be given to students who are maintaining a grade point average of 3.0. Further preference will be given to students who have successfully completed German 101 and 102. To support one or more full-time, matriculated graduate or undergraduate student(s). Decisions will be based on academic merit and demonstrated financial need.

Daniel and Helen Carrier Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen students who graduated from Dartmouth (MA) High School and who were in the top 1/3, but not the top 10, of their graduating class.

A. J. Carvalho Memorial Scholarship

To support an incoming freshman female student of Portuguese descent who has graduated from New Bedford High School with a GPA of at least 3.0, or a full-time, matriculated student at UMD with a GPA of at least 3.0. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need.

A 2018-19 FAFSA completed by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Chancellors' Centennial Scholarship

For students in a matriculated master's degree program who demonstrate excellent academic standing in their chosen field of study. Applicants should have at least one semester of full-time study at UMass Dartmouth. Demonstrated financial need may also be considered.

Earle P. Charlton Scholarship

Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with superior standing. Preference given to greater Fall River and Somerset (MA) residents.

Dartmouth Industrial Development Foundation Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated undergraduate or graduate students with demonstrated financial need. Must be a resident of Dartmouth, MA.

Mary M.C.H. Eccles Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated students at UMass Dartmouth. Scholarships will be based on merit and financial need with an emphasis on merit. Students must reside in the greater New Bedford area.

Fall River Endowment Scholarship

For an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need. Must be a resident of Fall River.

For an undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

Louise A. Habicht University Honors Scholarship

To support a full-time, matriculated undergraduate students in the University Honors Program, specifically senior students working on their honors theses at UMass Dartmouth.

The recipient will be determined by the Honors Program Director. There is no application process.

Edward M. Hartley Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

Ida and Morris Horvitz, Jr. Endowment

For undergraduate or graduate student with demonstrated financial need.

William Q. MacLean Scholarship

To assist full-time students from the SouthCoast, MA region who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities both on and off campus. Must be an entering freshman or transfer student.

  • Must be full-time (12+ credits/semester)
  • Must have completed at least 24 credits
  • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have demonstrated active involvement in public service at the University and/or hometown
  • Must be a resident of Bristol, Plymouth, Duke, or Barnstable Counties in MA
  • Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need

To support an undergraduate student who is the first in his or her family to attend college. This scholarship will be based on financial need and merit, with financial need taking precedence.

Michael W. MacFarlane Jr. Memorial Scholarship

For undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who plan to study abroad for a semester or for an entire academic year.

Preference will be for students who are, in order of preference: 1) members of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity; 2) History or Political Science majors; or 3) members of the Phi Sigma Sigma, Delta Pi Omega, Iota Delta Nu or Alpha Sigma Tau sororities.

Memorial Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen and full-time matriculated undergraduate students who are residents of Rochester, Marion, Wareham, or Mattapoisett. Must have GPA of 2.0 and must demonstrate financial need.

Lynn Bross Trayser Mitchell Memorial Scholarship

For graduate or undergraduate UMass Dartmouth students serving environmental research or educational internships at the Lloyd Center for Environmetal Studies.

New Bedford Italian Literary and Mutual Aid Society Scholarship

For undergraduate or graduate students of Italian descent with a preference to those who are residents of (1st preference) New Bedford, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, or Acushnet, or residents of (2nd preference) Mattapoisett, Marion, Rochester, or Westport. Scholarship provides for tuition.

Jay Porter American Federation of Teachers Scholarship

For a student who is a Massachusetts resident with demonstrated financial need and in good academic standing. Preference is for a student whose parent(s) is a member of any recognized labor union in Massachusetts.

To support full-time, matriculated graduate and undergraduate students. Award decisions shall be based on academic merit. Recipients may apply for successive Racine Scholarships, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Donald H. Ramsbottom Fundraising Endowment

To award a full-time student who has excelled in academic achievement, is involved in extra-curricular activities both on and off-campus, and who has raised a substantial amount of funds for the Annual Fund at UMass Dartmouth.

Decisions will be determined by the Director of Annual Giving, Director of Alumni Affairs, and the Executive Director of the UMass Dartmouth Foundation or their designees.

Estelle Woolfe Robinson and Ruth Soloman Smith Memorial Scholarship

To support a female non-traditional undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need who would be at risk for not attaining a college education without scholarship assistance.

Preference will be given to women who are returning to school after time off for a variety of reasons or for women who live on Cape Cod, particularly the outer portions.

Sigma Phi Rho Scholarship (aka Johnny Newkirk Scholarship)

For an under-represented sophomore, junior, or senior student with demonstrated financial need and a GPA of 2.65 or higher.

A 2018-19 FAFSA completed by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Southcoast Business Alliance Scholarship

To support a student with demonstrated financial need. Student shall be a graduate of Fall River or New Bedford area high schools and enrolled at UMass Dartmouth as a student in good standing in their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

A 2018-19 FAFSA completed by March 1 will automatically allow students who meet eligibility requirements to be considered for this scholarship.

Frank Stevens Scholarship

Must be a full-time undergraduate student with superior undergraduate standing. Preference given to a Swansea resident. Renewable if full-time status and high GPA are maintained.

Charles Irwin Travelli Scholarship Fund

For entering freshmen who are Massachusetts residents with a demonstrated financial need will be considered. This scholarship is open to any undergraduate major.

UMass Dartmouth Alumni Association Scholarship for Graduate Students

For graduate students who are currently full-time.

  • Must have completed 9 credit hours
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Must also demonstrate financial need.

UMass in Lisbon Study Abroad Program: Saab Family Foundation Scholarship and TAP Air Portugal Travel Scholarship Grant

For students in the University of Massachusetts system (enrolled at the Dartmouth, Amherst, Boston, Lowell, or Worcester campuses) who intend to study abroad in Lisbon, Portugal. These two special scholarships are provided through the generosity of the Program sponsors.
