Free Tuition Program for Fall 2025
UMass Dartmouth is proud to announce a transformative initiative, the UMass Dartmouth Deal, which will provide free tuition and mandatory fees to high-need, in-state undergraduate students. Read more to see if you qualify.
Grants and tuition credits are considered gift aid and do not need to be repaid.
Federal Pell Grant
- Federal grant administered by the U.S. Department of Education
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students
How much will I receive in a Pell Grant?
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
- Federal grant administered by the university
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled in 12 credits or more who show extraordinary financial need
- Awards range from $200 to $4,000, depending on available funds and number of eligible applicants
Federal Teach Grant
- Federal grant administered by the university
- Provides up to $4,000 per year
- Available to eligible graduate students who agree to serve as a full-time, highly-qualified teacher in a high-need subject area in a designated low-income school for at least 4 years within 8 years of graduating
- Applicants must meet certain academic achievement requirements (i.e. maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25)
- May need to be repaid if student does not fulfill teacher service agreement

Massachusetts Grant (MassGrant) Program
- State funded grant program administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled full-time (12+ credits) who are a legal resident of Massachusetts
- FAFSA must be filed each year by May 1
Mass Part-Time Grant
- State funded grant program administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need and available funds
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled in 6-11 credits who are a legal resident of Massachusetts
Need-Based Tuition Credit
- Institutional funded program administered by the university
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled 6 credits or more who are a legal resident of Massachusetts
- Online & Continuing Education courses are not covered by this program
- The award may be adjusted or reduced based on final institutional and direct charges or changes to a student's cost of attendance (including but not limited to tuition, room, board, and/or any applicable fee adjustments) and will not be refunded.
- May only be applied to tuition and/or fees
Massachusetts Access Grant
- State funded program administered by the university
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time who are a legal resident of Massachusetts
- Online & Continuing Education courses are not covered by this program
- The award may be adjusted or reduced based on final institutional and direct charges or changes to a student's cost of attendance (including but not limited to tuition, room, board, and/or any applicable fee adjustments) and will not be refunded.
University Grant
- Institutional grant administered by the university
- Eligibility determined by demonstrated financial need
- Available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time
- Online & Continuing Education courses are not covered by this program
