Emily Norwood is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship for the upcoming academic year from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
Emily Norwood ‘19, a student at the Charlton College of Business, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). According to the PCAOB, the scholarships are intended to encourage accounting students to pursue careers in auditing.
Originally from South Carolina, Emily moved to Cape Cod in 2013 and began taking classes at Cape Cod Community College. After earning her associate’s degree, she transferred to UMass Dartmouth where she is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting. “Being 26 years old and having already experienced a taste of adulthood, accounting came easily to me,” said Emily. “The concepts learned in the classroom are quickly applied outside of the classroom in my life.”
Emily has remained on the Dean’s List since her first semester at UMass Dartmouth and is an active student member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. “I am so happy for Emily," said Dawn Gupta, Accounting & Finance Lecturer at the Charlton College of Business. "She works very hard to manage her academic workload and her job. She is an excellent student and this scholarship will help her tremendously."
