Pursued research in machine learning, computer vision, and transfer learning.
I completed my bachelor's degree in computer science from Shaheed Zulifkar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology in Karachi, Pakistan in 2013. I began working as a data analyst and got to know about the field and the increasing demand for data scientists.
The potential growth and better career opportunities in the data science field led me to choose this program at UMassD.
Strong research foundation
Although my research career has just started, I was able to familiarize myself with several research fields by working on different projects. I developed a strong research foundation that will help to ensure my future success.
I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Ming Shao on machine learning, computer vision, and transfer learning. I recently published an article that discusses the benefits of computer-aided diagnosis to detect breast cancer and the role of deep learning, computer vision, and transfer learning in health care. Dr. Shao and I presented our work at the 2017 New England Computer Vision Workshop (NECV) at Northeastern University in Boston.
I am also working on my thesis related to action recognition in multiview videos.
While conducting research, I was introduced to various subjects that helped me polish my writing skills and develop my use of research marketing materials. My research also provided me with the opportunity to be an external reviewer for international journals and conferences.
Next step
After graduation, I will continue my education at UMassD as a PhD student. I will also continue to work with Dr. Ming Shao on research in data mining and machine learning.
