Mechanical engineering major Tharima Ferdausi talks about how receiving scholarship support has allowed her to focus on her career path.
"Attending UMassD was an ideal choice for me since it is close to home and I am able to attend tuition free. Thanks to receiving the scholarship, I don’t have to worry about loans, I can focus on my studies, get involved in organizations, and look for internship opportunities that will prepare me for my career.
The scholarship funds have also made it possible for me to pursue work-study relevant to my major and career goals. As a junior, I worked as an office aide for the Science and Engineering Tutoring Center, and I recently accepted an internship with EY Technologies in Fall River.
I have also been able to volunteer my time with the MassPrig and Conversation Partner Program and STEM4Girls event, serve as treasurer for the Society of Women Engineers, and join organizations like the Engineering Without Border, the Muslim Students Association and the National Society of Black Engineers.
The scholarship helps cover expenses I won’t have to worry about later."
