Featured S-STEM Scholars
Brothers Davidson Joseph and Clivens Joseph grew up in Haiti before their family moved to Boston. These two first-generation college students also became the first in their family to earn master's degrees, with the support of the S-STEM Scholarship.

"I chose to attend UMass Dartmouth because it was affordable and offered a strong Mechanical Engineering department, which aligned perfectly with my academic and career aspirations.
"I first learned about the S-STEM scholarship through my research advisor, who encouraged me to apply. The scholarship provided invaluable support, boosting my confidence in presenting my research and discussing my work. It also helped me better understand how my own research, as well as others' work, contributes to the broader STEM field.
"Currently, I am working as a Mechanical/System Engineer, primarily focusing on projects dedicated to the Department of Navy, USA."

"I visited a few schools before deciding on UMassD. I just found the campus to be a perfect fit for me: not too quiet, not too loud. Because of the size of the school, I knew I'd have access to my professors and not feel lost. I also witnessed the experience my older brother had at UMassD, and seeing him succeed here made me feel more confident that I could do the same." "As a first-year student, I didn't know what I was capable of; I never would have predicted that I would make it into the by-invitation-only BS/MS program. It feels great to have my work recognized and to find that I did what I thought I couldn't do.
"It's been great having my brother here, too; he has always been an example to me, and he shows me what is possible."
