ECE Student Ray Bautista Wins Best Paper Award

Radienxe "Ray" Bautista, a 2015 BS graduate in Electrical Engineering, won a Student Best Paper award for his presentation "Testing spatial co-prime sampling theory" at the 169th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America held May 18-22, 2015 in Pittsburgh, PA.  Ray presented experimental results confirming that new co-prime nonuniform sensor array designs that require many fewer sensors could still locate sound sources as accurately as traditional uniformly spaced linear arrays.  Ray built co-prime microphone arrays and tested the arrays' performances in locating sound sources in the campus auditorium.  ECE Professor John R. Buck supervised Ray's undergraduate internship, which was funded by the US Office of Naval Research and the College of Engineering's Undergraduate Research Internship Program.   Ray recently accepted a job with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI, and plans to pursue his MS degree at UMass Dartmouth while working at NUWC.
