50 Years of Cross Country
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the cross country program, cross country alumni will honor Coach Robert Dowd at a dedication ceremony during Homecoming Weekend. You are invited to join us for the ceremony, run the course then gather for breakfast on Saturday, October 20 at 8:00am.
About Coach Dowd
Coach Robert Dowd began his 42-year career at UMassD's predecessor Southeastern Massachusetts Technical Institute (SMTI) in 1967, directing the men's cross country program, and later the women's program in 1974. During his successful career, he accumulated a combined coaching record of 305-53-1 and coached six individual NCAA National Champions and 33 D-III All-American performers until 1987, when he was named athletic director. Coach Dowd can still be found around campus mentoring student-athletes and supporting the Athletic Department.
