Continues the development of students' legal research and writing abilities through writing exercises and research topics related to the drafting of memoranda, motions and other documents.
Consistent with our Pursue Justice mission, this course will expose students to legal areas where access to justice issues abound. Students will study both substantive and procedural issues such as evictions, family issues, and right to counsel. Students will engage in hands-on examination of community resources that promote access to justice, analyze their efficacy, and propose possible reforms.
Betsy Byra received her JD from Boston University School of Law in 2020. She is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
Prior to joining the faculty at UMass Law, Betsy worked at a Boston law firm as an associate in the complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution group. Betsy continues to work as a contract attorney with the Victim Rights Law Center in Boston where she assists indigent survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault with obtaining immigration status.
