Amsterdam, Netherlands
As a conceptual artist with a social practice and an art teacher of young children, I propose online workshops for children to create their own family flag to hang outside their home or to use digitally. Inspirations come from my quarantine experiences providing online art lessons to children from my base in Amsterdam and witnessing how much they need to express emotions related to fears, forced isolation. My own son made a hilarious flag (image) for his bedroom fort/homeschool. Another inspiration is the use of flags during the recent national holiday "Day of Remembrance" (see photo) and "Liberation Day" when citizens fly flags in front of their homes at half mast or up high to show their solidarity, empathy, morning and celebration. I would love the opportunity to show the creations of children from Amsterdam or internationally and share how quarantine has challenged us all to refine our sense of home, community and safety. Contagion has touched every front door across the world.
