Barbara Groves paints the echoes of the colors and shapes that have always obsessed her. Her dreamlike compositions divide or excise natural forms into their purest denuded structures. The process of creation thereby becomes an act of liberation. Driven by an array of anti-figurative concerns, she deals with collisions of organic and geometric shapes, discipline and playfulness, agency and restraint, and convergence and diversion, stressing the interplay of color and form. Space as the subject is intimately woven with tension and movement into a fabric of paint until she feels it resonates as a resolved entity.
