Statement

My degree project focuses awareness on saving African Rhinos from extinction. Rhinos are endangered because their horns are believed to have medicinal benefits that can cure diseases like cancer, hangovers from heavy drinking, and drug usage. They are also engraved as ornaments for luxury items.

There is no evidence that Rhino horns have healing properties. Their horns contain keratin just like human toenails, fingernails, hairs, and tooth enamel—nothing more. Shockingly, Rhino’s horns are more valuable than gold. Rhinos are a crucial part of their ecosystem. Rhinos are grazers and feed on vegetation that helps shape the African landscape. One of Africa’s “Big Five”, popular with tourist, the animal helps the African economy. In a world without Rhinos—our environment and our economy will suffer.
