Biography

Maureen Trundy grew up on the coast of Maine. After graduating from high school she spent four years working in international-level dressage horse barns around the country and competing her own horse at a high level. Maureen’s decision to study illustration stems from a love of storytelling and fond memories of childhood picture books. Her work is influenced by her time spent around animals, appreciation of nature, and an atrocious sense of humor.

Statement

Growing up in the middle of nowhere meant I spent a lot of time outside as a kid. As I’ve grown up and spent time in cities and more urban areas, I’ve realized how many people don’t interact with the great outdoors.  With this project I intend to bring more awareness to the consequences our actions have on creatures other than ourselves. There are over 40,000 species of plants and animals on the IUCN Red List of endangered species, and many of them are there because of us, whether it’s climate change, pollution,  habitat destruction, or illegal hunting. I would like to call attention to a wide range of animals: the ugly, the strange, and the not-so-glamorous. This project is designed to eventually be made into a book for a wide range of audiences; chunks of information that are often funny and easy to digest interacting with eye catching illustrations.
