Biography

My name is Kerry Magoon I am a senior graphic design major.

Statement

The Paper Doll Project is based on the history of the paper doll, which is a two-dimensional figure drawn or printed on paper for which accompanying clothing has also been made. I intend to introduce viewers of my project to the vibrant history of Paper Dolls through a series of posters and inspiring the viewer to create and play with paper dolls. 

I was inspired by how Paper Dolls as artifacts illustrate the social expectations for women at particular moments in time. As products of both popular culture and mass marketing, Paper Dolls are intentionally designed to reflect that society’s idealized version of womanhood.   Special thank you to The Original Paper Dolls Artist Guild (https://www.opdag.com/index.html) for their help with this project and providing historical information.
