Art + Design: Graphic Design
Biography
Jordan Vongsithi was raised in many parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and considers both states his home as he splits his time between them. After taking an interest in fine arts in high school, he enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth as part of their Visual and Performing Arts College. This spring he will receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. Aside from graphic design, Jordan practices art through photography and filmography, and often incorporates the two mediums into his design work.
Statement
My thesis is a study of human relationships, connections, and bonds through the concept of making friends. As people, we experience one another and form connections as a result of our own decisions, choices, and other factors. Even more surreal is how much these bonds shape who we are.
By analyzing four unique individuals, my study explores the idea of friends by interviewing each of them, asking them their views and values on friendships and connections. In addition to documenting their responses through audio and video, capturing raw moments of these people being themselves, as they would among their friends, through photos. Altogether these elements are to uniquely display these people’s personalities, emotions, and values, potentially seeing them as a possible friend.
My study seeks to further the conversation about human connections, and how these connections we make, while seemingly arbitrary, are rather an important show of our own character. Additionally, I hope that people take intrigue in the concept of friendship, and further their understanding and appreciation for the connections they have formed in their lives.
