Biography

Jacob Sutherland is a Graphic Designer interested in brand and package design. He earned his BFA in Graphic Design from UMass Dartmouth in the Spring of 2020. He previously studied film at Pace University. Jacob uses his film-making, photography, and illustration skills to enhance his graphic design work.

Statement

This project is focused on how an alcohol company can be environmentally sustainable through the utilization of local resources. Too many companies – especially in the alcohol market – prioritize profit while disregarding the hazardous environmental impacts of their business. After doing research, I found that many of these poor environmental practices stem from companies choosing to use non-local products in the process of creating their alcohol. For me, local means Massachusetts. There is an apple orchard less than three miles from my home, so I knew creating a hard cider brand was a great way to promote my message. This is how “Rooted Hard Cider” was born. While developing the brand I made sure to reflect my passion for sustainability and my love for Massachusetts.
