Statement
My series mainly focuses on magical creatures in a modern day setting. Throughout the course of this project my idea changed many times and was originally something completely different. The very first image I did for this series was the leviathan and it wasn't drawn specifically for my senior thesis, it was for a different assignment. But I had so much fun designing the creature that I decided I needed to draw more of them. To be honest I originally had a lot of trouble deciding what I wanted to do because I was originally focusing so hard on making something that was meaningful or impactful and in the midst of making those images I realized that I wasn't having any fun.
I draw these magical creatures simply because I find them cool and fun. It allows for a lot of creative liberty and freedom since these animals are supposed to be out of the ordinary. What I wanted for the atmosphere varies from image to image. I wanted some to be humorous while I wanted others to just feel sweet and happy. My favorite part of the process is coloring the images. I really enjoy working with color and seeing how far I can push the the rendering while still having it maintain a stylized look.
