Concentration: Art & Design: Animation & Game Arts
About Paige Tribick
Hi! My name is Paige Tribick, and I’ll be graduating from UMass Dartmouth with a BFA in Animation & Game Arts. I always love talking about my major with anyone who asks not only because it’s so unique, but also because it was something I knew I wanted to do for most of my life. As a person who loves all things gaming, getting to deliver the kinds of experiences I—along with many others—have been taken through with games is my ultimate goal.
My love for art in general started when I moved for the second time when I was around 10 years old. Having something comforting and completely my own like art to ease me throughout the process for the second time helped immensely, and that’s where I started to develop my character design skills. Even now, creating original characters is my most favorite process of my projects. In the future, my absolute dream is to be an accomplished character artist with a series of beloved, iconic characters.
Statement
For my senior project, I decided to expand upon a project I created my sophomore year in my 2D Animation Studio elective class, which is where my pre-existing love for animation grew into a passion. The story follows the main character, diving into her dream to find that she’s harboring some feelings for her best friend, which she wasn’t even aware of until this particular night. I was originally inspired by the song “Digital Love” by Daft Punk, and it still serves as my inspiration for the revamped project now.
This project also aims to help me develop an animation style that I can call my own, as the original project was to not only create an animation but also try to replicate an animation style of our choosing. As fun of a challenge that may have been, having something in my portfolio that’s uniquely my own makes me feel a lot happier and prouder. On top of that, having this be my senior project provides me with time to practice my animation skills, since I feel I wasn’t given much time previously to do so.
