About Jared Gula
My name is Jared Gula, I am a 3D Environment Artist from South Dennis, MA, with a specialty in textures and materials. I love building worlds, from large scale environments all the way down to tiny details in the textures that each tell their own story. I love approaching art on a technical level so that I can create complex systems and tools for myself and others to use with ease and simplicity. My goal with everything I know and have learned in this major is to become an environment texture artist in a game studio, which would involve designing materials that would be used to color and texture landscapes and objects within video game worlds.
Statement
For my capstone, I created a large game environment entirely using assets and landscapes that I designed. This environment starts with a large lake, taking the player through the forest, and a river where they will find the ruins of a lost civilization. This environment was textured entirely using pixel art, and everything is maintained using the exact same scale so that every single pixel feels coherent and part of the world. This project stands to be a blend of what I love about nature and my love for the technical aspects of computers and technology, which is one of the biggest reasons behind picking pixel art over hyperrealism.
