About Isabelle Indermitte

Isabelle Indermitte is an illustrator from North Attleboro, Masachussetts. Originally a criminology major at UMass Boston, she transferred to UMass Dartmouth in the fall of 2021 to focus on illustration, 3D modeling, and 2D animation. She was a self-taught artist who has since developed her skills at CVPA and experimented with multiple mediums and a diverse range of styles. However, she is mostly interested in comics and concept art. She has always loved poring over the imagery in her father’s French and Belgian comic books kept on the bookshelf in their living room. The Thorgal series by Sente and Rosinski were the first comic books that sparked her love for storytelling.

Statement

For my Capstone, I wanted to pay tribute to both my father and his comics, which inspired me to pursue art by creating a comic of my own. The story follows three characters with different personalities as they attempt to steal a magic sword from a black market auction. As I was writing and drawing out my comic, I wanted to focus on the idea of “show don’t tell”. I wanted to limit the dialogue to only what was necessary so that people like my younger self, who struggled with reading or did not understand English would be able to follow along and enjoy the comic. Despite a few struggles along the way, this was quite a rewarding experience and I plan to continue the story post-graduation.
