Concentration: Art + Design: Animation + Game Arts
Statement
I am a Guatemalan-American artist who grew up outside Chicago and now resides in Rhode Island. I still enjoy drawing and painting, but my true passion lies in the continuous exploration and process of 3D art and animation. I find joy in discovering the functionalities of 3D programs and bringing my ideas to life through digital mediums.
Learning about art and the creative process improves my quality of life. Communicating was always a struggle, but art makes my life easier. It helps me collect my thoughts and words. Because I can be creative and communicate, I want to express ideas as best I can.
In my work, I use textures found in traditional art like chalk pastels, watercolor, gouache, oil paint, and pencil. I often prefer pastels over desaturated color palettes. Pastels remind me of the cartoons I enjoyed. The shapes I use are usually friendly and have rounded-off edges. Additionally, I appreciate playing with words and metaphors. 3D art allows me to explore the mixing of painting and my appreciation for messy art and animation. Furthermore, the medium lets me integrate surreal elements into my ideas. Ultimately, I get to experiment with giving ideas movement and life.
I anticipate graduating on May 16th, 2024 with a BFA in Animation + Game Arts. I aim to fine-tune the alienhood of my creativity and the traditional characteristics of art as a graduate student.
