Statement
Black culture is timeless. This tenet serves as the foundation of my Capstone. Utilizing aspects of Art Nouveau and graphic design, I pay homage to the immortalized posters of Alphonse Mucha & Wes Wilson. Through intricate compositions, I transport black figures into a classical realm, weaving ornamental backgrounds with negative space to evoke dynamic poses, elegance, and grace.
In my artistic journey, I delve into the rich tapestry of African printmaking, the luminous stained-glass windows, the fusion of mixed-media collage, and the vibrancy of psychedelic posters. Imagine stepping into a cathedral, gazing upon its stained-glass windows, and leafing through ancient manuscripts. With each piece, I invite you to journey through time, bridging the past with the present, and offering a glimpse into the enduring spirit of Black culture.
