Art + Design: Graphic Design
About Steven Bodak
Graphic Design is the second career path I’ve chosen to follow. I started off as a car technician after I got out of college with my associate degree in automotive technology for General Motors. After about 5-6 years in the automotive field, I felt it was time for a change of pace. I started my Graphic Design career in 2016 at Massasoit Community College. I went part-time and later received my associate degree in 2019. In the beginning of 2020, I continued my studies at UMass Dartmouth. After a long road traveled, I will be finally graduating in 2024 with my bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Attending both colleges has brought me a wealth of knowledge and experience. UMass Dartmouth has the most amazing teachers who are there to help you every step of the way. This helped me take charge of what I want for my future as a graphic designer.
Statement
My interest in typography steadily increased through my time in college. To develop a typeface from scratch immediately came to mind when the capstone project was introduced. My inspiration comes from a handful of typefaces that piqued my interest. One of them was from the 70’s that was wildly popular called Avant Garde. The other two are Comfortaa and Marshmallow. Avant Garde with its geometric design caught my, Comfortaa with its soft, round edges and Marshmallow with a small cap design that allowed for the upper- and lower-case letters to be the same size and flow smoothly. These typefaces allowed me to invent Faunt, a sort of a play-on word that is used in typography.
