Statement
I have created a series of illustrations, to be presented together in a functional twelve-month wall calendar, stemming from my personal belief that there can never be too much to celebrate. Each month in the “Year of Weird” collection features a scene that highlights lesser-known, and oddly specific holidays or observances, such as National Squirrel Appreciation Day. This project incorporates my long-time fascination with unique holidays as well as my interests in character design and lighting. Overall, I am incredibly proud of the work I have created and hope this series serves as a nice reminder to embrace the weirdness found in everyday life. There is always something, no matter how small, that is worth celebrating.
