About Samentha Mayard

I was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti, and moved to the United States in 2008, making Brockton Massachusetts my home until adulthood. I have always had an affinity for the arts and made that a key part of my life and always knew that I would go on to pursue a higher education in the subject. Despite growing up in a disadvantaged community, I felt privileged to be given the opportunity to be surrounded by other artists and passionate people who made perseverance a key factor in their identity. With the support of my community, I pursued my passion and displayed my work in exhibitions across Massachusetts. Choosing to attain a degree in the arts was a difficult decision, as it is for many, but it is one that I am glad I made and would have regretted it otherwise. This year I was able to get a head start in my career in animation by using my skills to create motion data for drone shows at Sky Elements Drones. There, I get to work on a team of talented individuals to make dancing images in the night sky using innovative technology.

Statement

My passion for art started at an early age and naturally became an outlet for self-expression and exploration of the world around me. My work has gone through many stages of metamorphosis as I experiment with different media and visual languages. My focus has always been on the depiction of psychological states, emotions, and philosophical concepts. Using color, symbolism, and light, I explore the human condition at its core and the grief that lingers within as we continuously shape our identities and strive for the ideal version of ourselves. Throughout my years as an artist, my art served as a visual language to describe the indescribable using inspiration from personal experience, literature, and music.
