About Katrina Vieira

Katrina Vieira is a photographer based in Massachusetts. She received her B.F.A in Photography and Minor in Art History from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2023. Her work specializes in self-portraiture and personal narratives.

Statement

The ideal romantic relationship is something most have only seen in movies. For me, it was my parents. They were high school sweethearts, married at nineteen, and happily together ever since. To this day, I admire what they have. So, when it came time for my high school romance, I ignored what felt missing.

The focus of my work concerns what I now know to be the symptoms of anxious attachment disorder. There's an unspoken obsession and desire when falling in love for the first time, but doubt creeps in and disappointment inevitably follows. 

In my photographs, I depict the craving to be loved rather than to love, the fear of losing the one person who seems impossible to live without, and the foolishness of it all. This series is a reconstruction of this relationship. I reenact scenes from my own experiences and gather artifacts pertaining to this time in my life, uncovering memories that were once locked away.
